The worst is probably over now for most..particularly those living near Bellingham. The air is now cold enough for snow throughout the region (see temps from profiler over Seattle). The band I was worried about it my afternoon note has moved through central and northwest Washington and we have a few showers remaining...but nothing serious. The latest snow total forecast map ending 4 PM tomorrow is attached --indicating the rainshadowing (or snow shadowing of central Puget
Sound), with SW and NW Washington getting most of the action. Fraser River outflow is still occurring, with cold air exiting the gap, and strong NE winds gusting to around 30 mph. The perfect place to send that Foreman-guy from KING TV...the one that is always in the big parka.Anyway, there will be a few snowshower now, but no serious accumulation...and then things will dry out tomorrow.
Started snowing around 5:15 pm this evening....still snowing (very light) right now (10:45 pm), with a temp of 31 here in Eatonville. Around 3 or 4 inches on the ground. Roads are covered. We usually get rain when it's an "on the edge" (not really cold) event. I'm not complaining! I love winter! Bring it on!

ReplyDeletebah humbug - a brief burst of snow at 10pm in Eastlake/Lake Union and then poof it was over. But I am so happy for the mountains & snowpack!
ReplyDeleteIt was wild weather on Alki this afternoon (wed.) and was a great opportunity to have the entire walk around the point to myself. The waves were churning and the gulls really had plenty to eat, the system had kicked up so many clams etc. It was fabulous to be out in the weather.
Snowing pretty good here right now in Woodinville-Hollywood hill with everything covered in white! Temp at 30 with dp at 28.
ReplyDeleteWe have a scant 1/2" on our deck in Phantom Lake (Bellevue) and it's still snowing now. I expect it to all be gone by 10 am but it's pretty now!

ReplyDeleteIt has been snowing heavily for about two hours here (next to Magnuson Park on Lake Washington). We have about three inches on top of the fence. I have already seen one car get stuck trying to get up the hill in front of us. The trees are thickly frosted with snow, and everything is sparkly and white.

ReplyDeleteMy 3rd grader's class was supposed to have a visit from Governor Gregoire's husband today and I don't know if that will still happen -- I hope so, as the kids are really excited.
My 8th grader has studied hard for a physics test and is worried about trying to remember everything for another whole day -- I know she should be able to do that, but she's freaking about it.
Who would ever expect kids to WANT to go to school first thing in the morning instead of staying home to play in over an inch of snow?? LOL

ReplyDeleteLast night we had a spattering of snow over a crust of ice. The ice hadn't formed on the street yet. I knew if it snowed any more, by today it would be NASTY. Well, it snowed. Glad we don't have to go anywhere today (work at home). Feel sorry for those who do.

MESSAGE DATE: FEB 25 2009 22:15:00 UPDATE: KATX WILL BE DOWN UNTIL AT LEAST THURSDAY AFTERNOON, FEB 26TH FOR REPAIR. THE MECHANICAL FAILURE FOR THE RADAR IS MORE EXTENSIVE THEN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT...AND MORE PARTS ARE ON ORDER.
Let's say that Metro was surprised in December about their system's overload. And let's say they responded perfectly. Knowing government (on any level), no matter how competent they were, I would call it impossible to plan, purchase, and upgrade in less than 3-4 months. I'm speaking from experience: I'm still waiting for the laptop for the purchase order I submitted in Nov.
