Some snow showers are moving through the area...except for the northern Sound area, which is in the rainshadow (now snowshadow) of the Olympics. The rainshadow is there because the wind are from the southwest aloft. Northerly winds will push southward today and showers will be enhanced at and north of that interface, aided by a weak upper level shortwave disturbance. Don't expect a major snowstorm, but an inch or two is possible.
Current NWS forecast for BLI is "Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible."
ReplyDeleteI have an easy inch on the ground right now at 8:00 AM, it's 26F, and a glance at the radar loop suggests there's a lot more to come.
Of course if they'd predicted 4-6 inches we wouldn't have gotten any...
Snow showers actually started here in Richmond Highlands Shoreline at 8:30am.
ReplyDeleteInteresting micro-weather yestereday. Driving S on I-5 at about noon, left Shoreline 41F and partly sunny, S of Downtown Seattle we hit some light snow showers - still about 40. Des Moines/Federal Way dropped to 34F (car thermometer) and was snowing like crazy, covering trees and grass and sticking to the road in a slushy mess. Got to Fife and things warmed back up to 36, snow still falling but not as hard and the roads were clear. I understand the convergence zone concept but the fact that the temperature dropped so significantly in that spot was amazing to me.

Just finished snowing here in Maple Valley with about three inches new this morning. I was snowing hard enugh at one point to turn a black lab white in between shakes while walking.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely no snow in Ballard, down by the Sound. They still say it's going to snow here, but so far, all we've had is gloppy rain. Have not had any precip for at least an hour.
