Most of this "snow event" is over folks, except for some moderate snow showers north of Everett for convection elements moving through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Sorry to all snow lovers.
Next fun..the warm front tomorrow. The main snow threat for that will be south and southeast of the Olympics and near Bellingham..before it turns to rain they could get a few inches. And then plenty of snow in the mountains...skiers will be happy!

ReplyDeleteSomething needs to improve in the weather forecasting department. I know it was a tough situation to call, but there are so many 'tough situations' that sooner or later we need to find a solution and not continue to bust over and over again.
(I'm sorry. It's probably just the grouchy snow lover in my talking. It just seems like these sort of 'busts' happen all the time with snow if it's not a widespread-event.)
Booo. Now did NOAA get this so wrong? All day we had a winter advisory for my area and not a darn thing happened.
ReplyDeleteYes, in Marysville the temps are not falling, but moderating. It's currenly (at 8:45pm) 36F outside. I see a west to east flow from radar so it looks like the beginning of the end for the cold air here. It also looks like a CZ is forming north of Arlington & it's moving south. I wouldn't be surprised if I see all rain in the morning.

ReplyDeleteCliff, you were waaayy more accurate than the NWS. They mentioned nothing in their discos about the rainshadow. Nights like this is why i read this blog and rely on cliff's knowledge of our local weather. Thx cliff!!
ReplyDeleteIt snowed ALL DAY here in Lake Stevens, it stopped at about 6pm. (still light flakes falling at times since then, nothing to really mention though)
ReplyDeleteAlthough the accumulation wasn't much, it covered the roads off and on as the snow went from very light to light-moderate. Right now the temps are dropping to around freezing and we are left with snow on the roads. I'd suggest not driving in the morning and if you do then expect plenty of ice.
That zone moving inland now is a bit north of us, but looks like there's a good section that will drop far enough south to give us one last punch of snow tonight, maybe starting at around 9:30pm.
I was expecting zero snow during this event, I've lived here long enough to never trust the first few snow predictions for Western Washington. Too many variables need to be exactly right before it actually happens. We weren't even suppose to get snow until around 3pm today and yet we had snow all day long up until and past 3pm. :)
Don't worry folks, this is only December. I wouldn't expect the threat of snow to really begin until January. We had good snow fall during April of the past 2 years, don't forget that!

it anowed a few times here in chehalis but not anything to be proud of. Now its just rain.
ReplyDeleteAs of 10pm with the outside temp at 36.5F in Marysville, it's raining. Well it was nice while it lasted. We've got about a half an inch of snow today. The temps have remained steady to a slight rise. I believe the freezing level here is now about 500ft.

Drove up from Chehalis to Burien this AM, tiny amounts of snow drifting over the still cold freeway, kind of pretty but not a problem. Coming home varied snow and rain(maybe), but none accumulating on the lanes, some to the side. Traffic slowed down (nice), but no problems with slippery surfaces.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think the cold air that was suppose to be dragged down behind todays weak surface low is lacking. And since no cold air is in place, ones hoping for snow tomorrow wont get it. NWS discussion said hood canal 4 to 8 inches. I'd bet the farm against that one.
ReplyDeleteHooray, hooray for no snow! This time of year, snow is always findable for those who want to find it (just a quick trip to upper elevations nearby), but it's not always avoidable for those who want to avoid it (count me in!). I'm glad we dodged a snow bullet.
ReplyDelete35.4 here in east Bellevue and with just a trace of moisture -- the wet kind -- on the ground here, I'm glad we skipped the snow!

ReplyDeleteWe got another inch this evening in Bellingham and still trying to snow at 2am. Enough for glazed or snow/ice roads making for treacherous driving. Not a major snow event but enough bright white to make me happy. :)

ReplyDeleteThis is my 15th winter here which is starting to be a decent sample size. In that time at least, all of the bigger storms hit during November (wind) and December (snow). Usually by January, the storms are weaker.
I ski in the Methow a lot. I'd sure appreciate comments about snow chances there. So far it's slim pickins.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't snow here in Woodinville, but I can tell you we are having our own personal weather event as I type...ICE! There are cars all over in ditches, in wrecks, sirens in the distance, etc. NSD still called for school but the buses are in ditches at the bottom of the hills. We have a VW Syncro Vanagon and granny geared the kids to school and saw some very interesting parking jobs along the way ;)
ReplyDeleteOther than few flurries yesterday morning, I had no measurable snow here in my area of Woodinville here on Hollywood hill. Had a little bit of light rain last night and an over night rain shower, but that has been it.
ReplyDeleteI know it was hit & miss type deal with snow thing, but as some of you said, it was a total 'bust' for those who were hoping for measurable snow such as me. Perhaps it`ll happen on the next go around.
Awful ice north-east of Redmond. Spent 2 hours stuck by the side of the road watching SUVs and school buses skid and slide their way around. Finally walked home.
