7 PM Update

As per the earlier forecast, a new Puget Sound convergence zone has formed over north Seattle. There are heavy showers, some with small hail pellets, and even some lightning (my dog is in hiding now). The radar shows this well (image) as does the surface chart (image). Temperatures are a little warm for snow in most locations, but in the most intense areas, wet snow could reach the surface. And strong thunderstorms can produce lots of soft hail, ice pellets, or graupel that can turn the ground white anyway.

    Hello guys! :o)

A cool day here today with high of 41 and low of 31. Currrntly having a light rain/snow pellet mix. But here`s the catch....or maybe not the catch....I saw a a bright flash of lightning off to my SW with loud rumble of thunder! at about 645pm. The say thing is....I missed getting the lightning on my camera but think i might of gotten some of the thunder on it.

Right now I have 34 with dp at 31

You saved yourself, I was ready to jump on your typos. Just kidding! :)
I live in Totem Lake and am just on the southern edge of The Zone right now. Started out as hail, changed to almost pea sized graupel and now is very small graupel. It's coming down hard enough to bring the temp down 3 degrees in the past half hour and is beginning to coat everything, including the roads.

  6. Sleet in Alki...well, it ain't snow...

  7. Definitely snowing here in North Seattle at 137th near 99. Big flakes and coming down pretty hard. There's at least a half inch so far.

  8. In West Seattle in the past 15 minutes we had heavy downpours of hail and sleet leaving a heavy coating all over the roads and grass. Now its moderately snowing with a temp of 35 degrees. Any idea at how much snow we're gonna get from this cliff?

  9. It's changed to definite snow here, too (NE Seattle) at 7pm. Nice (wet) medium sized flakes. Now I have to go look up "graupel".

  12. Guys here a short vid I took of an ice pellet shower at Molbaks that occurred shortly before 6pm this evening. The shower only lasted maybe a couple minutes, but was nice to see while it lasted.

  14. An hour of very small pellets, but
now snow. Snowing pretty hard, big clusters quite a few an inch or larger here in MLT, accumulating at
maybe an inch an hour, but just
a quarter inch in the last twenty
    minutes or so.

  15. 83 with an east wind coming of the mountains. RH 25% here in Bellingham. Clear all the way out to Vancouver Island.

  16. Did the same as early this morning here, Trace on the concrete up to an inch on the car tops. Looks like it is over with, just some flurries now. Enough for a good snowball fight though.

  17. Andy -- with all due respect, I don't think most people really care that much.

I'm just disappointed that Cliff's forecast was so vague.

  18. Fascinating how Seattle is in the bullseye of the convergence zone tonight and completely shadowed at other times.

Soft, snowy hail earlier, one lightning flash (so typical!), and then some light snow. It's over now, and we got just a light dusting at Crown Hill, 335 ft.

  19. Just normal rain now at Alki...which isn't bad.

  20. Well if they don`t care about the snow amount that there place, than so be it. Let others take interest in it..

  21. Tue 1pm NAM. | This model shows some light snow amounts over central sound for early tomorrow morning through early afternoon time frame. 1000ft temps appear to be in the low-mid 30`s with SELY winds, so precip will likely remain light. However, the WRF-GFS shows us central sound folks to be pretty dry with no snow falling over out area. Even in precip mode, it appears dry for us during the ''10am'' period. Though the model could be wrong about precip, it could still be cool enough support snow on the higher hills with SELY flow at 925mb and temps of -3 or -4c. However 850mb winds show SSWLY winds with temps there of about -2 or -3c. So could start out as snow or some other type of mix when and if precip falls over the central sound region before turning to rain over the lowlands during the afternoon hours. Should also note that in looking at the temps just above the surface, the 1000ft temps for tomorrow over central sounds basically stay in the mid 30`s(34, 35) with 2000ft temps being the lower 30`s(31-33) for the morning and much of the afternoon over the central sound region with SELY flow. So again and as stated. Could see snow over with precip arrives or just a mix. But will likely depend on precip intensity, temperature, and elevation.

  24. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a chicken dog when it comes to weather. Let's hope there's no thunder with the snow - last time it happened I was awakened by something wet on my face - yes, a terrified and drooling dog, staring at me in hopes of waking me up!

Thanks for writing an informative and fun blog, and for all the pretty pictures!
