My New Weather Podcast! Listen Now!

Starting today and available every Friday, I will be providing a weather podcast, available through my blog and a number of podcast channels (such as Spotify, Apple, Google, and more).

Each podcast will review the current weather situation, talk about the forecast, and provide insights into local weather features, weather events, or weather concepts.

In contrast to my segments on KNKX, I will be able to talk about climate issues as well (such as the implications of climate-model projections for the Northwest).

These podcasts will be a two-way interaction and I hope to get your input on topics or questions you would like me to address--just leave a comment with your ideas!

Here is my first podcast. Today's segment will provide the Labor Day forecast and talk about the upcoming heatwave. Play the podcast here or stream on Spotify.

If you would like to support the creation of this podcast, please visit my Patreon site. Later on, I plan special online events for supporters.

My podcast is available right now on Spotify, Anchor, and will be on Apple and Google within a week.

This is a learning experience for me, with the acquisition of the necessary hardware and software. The podcast will evolve over time and probably lengthen to 8-10 minutes. You suggestions are very welcome.

  1. Excellent podcast. Thank you for explaining things and showing how we are interconnected. Fascinating. Your voice is extremely soothing by the way which is great for podcasts!

  2. Hi Cliff. Thanks for continuing your Friday morning tradition, an essential element of my week. Podcast feedback: Lose the background music. A good intro and extro is fine but talking over the music is, well, cheesy in my book. Smoke: I was just out reading on my deck and I looked up and saw that the color of the light is wrong. Much too harsh for these climes. Yes, smoke is in our midst. Topic idea: I noticed that we had no foggy mornings/days this year, which as I recall was somewhat of a regular feature in June around here. Am I correct on this? I'm curious, if there is anything particular about the weather that might have caused the lack of fog this summer. Thanks.

  3. The podcast is excellent, although I really liked the YouTube discussions better where you walk through the visual data.

  4. FYI - The future of nuclear energy has finally arrived:

No toxic waste byproduct and a reliable sources of energy, and also carbon - free. Checkmate for solar and wind power, which are not only unreliable but also need taxpayer - funded bailouts in order to keep operating. Not to mention the after effects of toxic waste for solar panels and inability to recycle the structures of windmills after their service time is done.

  5. I agree with Scott Souchock in an earlier comment: lose the background music. Excellent otherwise! Thanks.

  6. Those of us who live in eastern Washington who read and listen to your material always appreciate it when you include weather information for the east side of the state.

  7. Good first time around. Loose the music and but add some bumper music on both sides of the broadcast. Something upbeat. Can you give an climate update, haven't heard about in a while. Temps, ice conditions, water levels. Hearing a lot about Greenland losing a huge ice sheet and Antarctica losing an ice sheet the size of Rhode Island. Provide some information and context to what we are seeing this summer and how it fits for medium and long term climate

  8. I agree with Scott. I find the background music distracting and unnecessary.
Glad you are doing the podcasts! Thanks!

  10. Thanks for the podcast. I particularly enjoy learning why we have certain weather patterns. Telling us about our relationship to typhoons off Asia was great. Like the comment at 11:34 am, I enjoyed the visual YouTube presentations. I used check your blog before listening to your old radio talks, and occasionally the pre-posted pictures helped me to understand better. Perhaps you might post a few pictures / weather charts of your material on your blog so we can refer to them as we listen to your Podcast.

  11. Wonderfully thorough explanations, as usual! I'm so glad to have found your blog, as I felt methodologically lost without your data driven, insightful spot on KNKX. I really appreciate the way you explain how and why events happen in this wonderful region. Having read your post about the firing, I agree with you 100% and am I'm absolutely disgusted with KNKX!! I will be sending them a carefully worded email conveying my outrage. Thank you for including their contact info. Keep up the GREAT WORK!

  12. Excellent, except for the distracting music. Makes it hard to hear you clearly. Think about background noise in listeners' environments. Thanks for doing this!!!

  13. Excellent, but please lose the music. Too hard to hear you. Thanks.

  14. I agree on both getting rid of the background music and the usefulness of the visual presentations on YouTube.

  15. To what extent are we seeing arctic air "escaping" to the south. We've seen this for years now. Something related to climate change appears to have opened this gate.

  16. Thanks for continuing your Friday discussions Cliff! As a PNW sailer I'm always looking for detailed weather forecasts and in depth explanations of weather phenomenon. And for the record, I didn't find the background music distracting.

  17. Thank you for your podcast. If you would talk the same way you did on your radio show it would be much better. You seemed to be trying to hard. Just relax and be yourself.

  18. Thanks for staying with us. I share view that ongoing music is distracting; may want to drop background volume. I enjoy both voice styles. Will be happy either way.

  19. The music doesn't bother me Cliff, but does make me wonder if somewhere in your family tree you are related to Harry Shearer?

  20. Cliff, please lose the music. As someone who is hearing impaired it made it next to impossible to follow what you were saying. I do think the content and pacing was excellent, when I could follow it.

  21. Lose the music! Very distracting.

  22. Enjoyed the podcast, as always your info is great. However,as an older listener with diminishing hearing, I have to agree with some posters about the music. It complicates my voice discrimination, especially when your voice's loudness drops. I had to replay a few sections to make out what you were saying.
Thanks and keep up the good forecasting!

  23. Hi Professor Mass---have loved the blog, really loved the visual forecast (though maybe that was a complicated production?), joined Patreon. Agree with everyone about the music--maybe good as an intro or outro, but distracting during the presentation. Thanks!

  24. Cliff: so glad you are back and you can continue to add wisdom to this crazy climate we live in. I agree with other posts: your podcast would be even stronger if you eliminated the background music and found a way to include visuals to support the discussion. I think this format is much better than the radio: you have the freedom to spend the right amount of time on a subject and can go deeper when necessary. Many thanks.
